Stone House Design in Chile - contemporary on the slope

This amazing two-storey stone house makes a modern yin-and-yang statement by blending two opposing forces – nature and man – and two contrasting styles into one cool and contemporary design. Binimelis House sits on a 950m2 lot in La Reserva of Chicureo, Colina, Chile. And talk about taking lemons and making lemonade. Polidura + Talhouk Arquitectos took three site-related obstacles – the triangular lot, a 40-per-cent incline and the sun exposure – and transformed them into the defining characteristics of the innovative design. The home’s more notable design features are its two volumes, one balancing atop the other and pointing outward in opposing directions. The lower volume features a stone facade and is built right into the steeply sloping hillside. Enclosed within the earth are the home's private bedrooms which connect to a garden. The upper volume boasts a more modern look with a geometric pattern of cool gray stone cladding the exterior. Polidura + Talhouk Arquitectos
